Purushottam Maas
The month for exclusive pure devotion, the month with all the qualities of Purushottam Lord Krishna
Adhik Maas is the 13th month, which comes every 32.5 months. The solar year is 365 days, while the lunar year is 354 days - a gap of about 11 days. This difference accumulates to approximately one full month over three years, which is then inserted as Adhik Maas to bridge the gap. According to the Skanda Purana & Brihan Naradiya Purana, Adhik Maas was initially considered inauspicious and called Mal Maas because it had no presiding deity. Feeling neglected, this extra month approached Lord Vishnu for refuge. Lord Visnu took him to Goloka Vrindavan, where he surrendered to Purushottam Lord Krishna. Compassionately, Lord Krishna renamed this month Purushottam Maas and bestowed all His transcendental qualities upon it.
Lord Krishna assigned this month exclusively for pure devotional service to Radha-Krishna. Any bhakti done in this month purifies us a thousand times more than other times. Materialistic ceremonies such as marriages, housewarmings, and property purchases are prohibited during this period. Lord Krishna has recommended during this month Harinam Sankirtan, Bhagavat Katha Sravan, Tirth Snan, Deep Daan, Annadan, Jal Daan, Gau Seva, Mandir Nirman etc. must be performed. Doing so will remove all the ignorance from one's heart and protect oneself from the greatest danger.
Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir is bringing you an opportunity to perform a variety of sevas in Vrindavan and receive prasadam and blessings of the Lord.
