The glories of Kartik

The month the rope of love bound even Lord Krishna

Kartik, also called Damodar Maas, is praised in the Padma and Skanda Puranas as the best of the months. During this period Mother Yashoda tried to bind naughty Krishna to a grinding mortar — and every rope fell two fingers short, until, seeing her love, He let Himself be tied. Dama is the rope, udara the belly: Damodar.

The scriptures say that whoever offers Lord Damodar a ghee lamp with love this month receives His boundless blessings.

On Diwali, Lord Krishna performed His Damodara Lila, where mother Yashoda bound Him by the belly with a rope.
Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhana Hill on the little finger of His left hand and protected all Brajvasis from Lord Indra.
Lord Krishna became a cowherd boy (Gopa) in this month and that day is since celebrated as Gopashtami.
In this glorious month Lord Krishna performed His most wonderful lila, the Rasa Lila.
Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya with Laxman and Mother Sita and took up His duty as the King of Ayodhya.
