Srimati Sita Thakurani was the wife of Sri Advaita Acarya Prabhu, and she lived in Santipura. She had three sons: Achyutananda, Krishna Mishra and Gopala Mishra were devotees of Mahaprabhu. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Nityananda Prabhu came to visit Santipur and met Advaita Acharya and Sita Thakurani. They held sankirtan festivals, and when Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu moved to Jagannatha Puri their visits to Santipur was more regular. Srimati Sita Thakurani would make Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s favourite food and offer lunch Prasad to Them. She loved Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu as her son and He loved her as His mother.

Srimati Sita Thakurani was always absorbed in (vatsalya-prema) paternal love for Sri Gaurasundara. When Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was born in Mayapur, Srimati Sita brought a basket full of dresses, ornaments, silken clothes for children, jewellery and a whole lot more. For the new-born-golden-baby she brought fresh grass, turmeric, kum-kum and sandalwood. The name ‘Nimai’ was given to Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu by Srimati Sita Thakurani.

“Sita Thakurani’s appearance day falls on 26th August this year.”
